Intercultural training for exchangees (teens) on short-term programs (PART 1/2)
In this 2-part course, within 6 modules you will discover innovative tools to understand your life abroad, how your behavior and perception of the world can influence your adaptation and how to interact with people from a new culture. How can your attitude be a decisive factor in the success or failure of your experience? And how will your family be like away from you? How can they help you?
This training will help you create healthier and more lasting relationships throughout your international experience, based on a deep understanding of the behavior and culture of the countries you will visit. You will also learn to identify what to expect from people there, how they think, act and react, and how to adapt your approach in a practical way.
You will be surprised by new and revealing concepts that will enrich your perception of the exchange, bringing clarity and new insights to transform your experience. The time of the old “culture shock” and all the unnecessary suffering behind the adaptation is over. The time has come to live your exchange in a more intelligent and efficient way, with the right tools to make each moment a learning opportunity.
This training was developed for you, who will embark alone on this important journey, ensuring that your exchange is successful and minimizing risk factors.
In this first part you’ll understand what is intercultural competence, how it can assist you during your stay abroad, what is the emotional state of someone moving abroad, and how this can affect the success or risk factors of the program. In this module, reflect on the foundational aspects of having a successful experience and be surprised by the importance of the relationships between those going, those staying, those receiving, and those sending in influencing the outcome of your stay.

We’ll work together to avoid cultural pitfalls and make sure you enjoy every interaction and moment of your journey in a meaningful and enriching way.
With a practical and dynamic approach, the course teaches effective strategies to deal with real challenges in the daily life of an exchange program. Using Intercultural Sciences (Intercultural Psychology & Intercultural Education), we will provide a more fluid experience, without wasting time with unnecessary adaptations. Our goal is for you to not only travel to new places, but to learn to fully live each part of this new experience.

- Volunteer at ICYE as a member of UNESCO and by UN designated as “Peace Messengers” (1993-1994)
- Intercultural Education Training by the European Council (1994)
- IACCP Member (International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology) since 1998
- Tutor and Guest Speaker at MIT about Cultural Awareness since 2021
- Member of the Educational Advisory Council at AFS International that promotes the Training for Trainers in countries like Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela and Costa Rica (2006-2012)
- Long and short term experiences abroad in Spain (Madrid), Italy (Rome) and Belgium (Louvain-la-Neuve) (1990-1996), United States (2008), France (2023) and Canada (2012, 2017, 2024, 2025)
